Ministry of Industry and Information Technology: Fiber Optic Access has been included in the Twelve Five Growth Plan

July 20, 2023
The National Conference on Industry and Information Technology was held today (26th). Facing the audience's strong demand for speed and tariffs, where will the future policy of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology refer?

Miao Miao, Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, admitted first that although we have made great progress in the construction of the Internet and broadband in the past five years, there is still a big gap compared to the average international level, and we have been in the past five years. The ranking of the world is still falling. At present, China’s Internet bandwidth ranks 71st in the world. With the expansion of triple play, some new services and new formats continue to emerge. The majority of users are increasingly dissatisfied with the speed of Internet access, so broadband speed will be used as The focus of next year's work of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology expressed that it hopes to formulate a five-year plan through 5 years of efforts. By the end of 2015, the bandwidth of urban households will reach 20Mbps, and 20Mbps of bandwidth can simultaneously transmit two high-definition televisions. Rural families strive to achieve a bandwidth of 4Mbps. From next year, they will increase their efforts in this area, increase investment, increase the construction of fiber-optic networks, and strive to enter millions of households. Since the broadband used by many of our residents today is only ADSL or dial-up broadband, this is much lower than the speed of fiber-optic broadband. Once the fiber network is successfully laid, we believe that the speed of the network will be greatly improved. According to Miao Wei Minister, fiber access has been included in the Twelve Five Growth Plan.

The Internet's Internet access fees are indeed a common concern, and this is an important part of the telecommunications industry. Minister Miao Wei said that in recent years, the telecom industry has been continuously reducing the cost of making calls and sending text messages. The general public are satisfied, but on the other hand, the charges for access to the Internet are relatively high. The minister assured everyone that first of all, several telecom operators should be encouraged to increase their investment in broadband construction, and they should be encouraged to further reduce their expenses, especially the cost of accessing the Internet.
